Saxophonist Tom Sanderman works as a soloist, is the co-founder of the Dutch experimental ensemble VONK and is a member of the Haags Saxofoonkwartet. He also performs as a guest player with other ensembles such as Lunapark and Bang On A Can.
A fierce advocate for contemporary music, Tom has already worked with and commissioned a number of composers, performing and recording several new works and world premieres.
Tom studied saxophone with Ties Mellema and Niels Bijl. He took part in the Bang On A Can Summer Festival 2016 at MASS MoCA (USA) where he collaborated with composers such as Julia Wolfe and John Luther Adams.
When Tom received the Jacques de Leeuw Award 2015 the jury stated, "Tom Sanderman is a sublime musician who excels with professional repertoire."
"He is a versatile performer who seeks out the frayed edges that generate excitement and knows that he can distinguish himself in this way. Within this astute space he has developed his own style, opting firmly for contemporary music."
In the fall of 2016, Tom released his first solo album The River Beneath Us with compositions by Anthony Fiumara, Steve Reich, Terry Riley an Philip Glass.
